You will need to use the pen tool if it's a vector shape.

If it's a pixel based shape:

- ctrl+click on layer to select shape
- click on mask icon to create a mask based on this shape
- use gaussian blur on this mask until the corners are round (but blurry)
- use 'levels' on this mask to remove blur

(this work with all latest Photoshop versions)
