Rounded corners for other shapes

I know you can edit corners and angles for rectangles and elipses ut is there a way to do it for other shapes?

More specifically, there is a 8 pointed star shape that I want to give more curved points. Is this possible or should I just use the original as a 'template' and and draw it myself?

Thanks.

You will need to use the pen tool if it's a vector shape.

If it's a pixel based shape:

- ctrl+click on layer to select shape
- click on mask icon to create a mask based on this shape
- use gaussian blur on this mask until the corners are round (but blurry)
- use 'levels' on this mask to remove blur

(this work with all latest Photoshop versions)

Hey, thanks for the reply.

When you say use the pen, do you mean just adding anchor points?

No, in most cases the following will do just fine:

Thanks for the help. I've got it working now.
I couldn't get it working using your 'alt + left click' shortcut (maybe I have a different version - CS4) but I had to use the convert point tool.

Thanks again!

I actually did it with Photoshop CS4, the same version that you are using, so obviously you don't do it right. Don't use the toolbar to switch to the convert point tool, it really slows down everything down if you don't use the shortcuts. I seldom use the toolbar while working with the pen tool.

Hold the ALT key and keep holding it while you left click and drag the anchor point. This works not only in CS4 but in all 5 or 6 previous Photoshop versions.
