Ripple effect in my gradients. Why?

Dear members,

I am following the next tutorial http://psd.tutsplus.com/tutorials/t.../using-light-and-shade-to-bring-text-to-life/ to make a thank you shot for my friend on dribbble.
Only problem that I put the effects only on one layer of text while I have 5 and already I stumble upon a problem with my gradient tool. The full text says: 'You can like this thanks to Mano Swerts'.

In the .psd attached you can see that I get a ripple effect. Can you guys see it or is it something on my screen? I don't get a nice color fade effect but something with ripples in it. It's ugly as hell and obvious can't post it online like that. Not for my best friend.

Can anyone explain me what happened and I how I can resolve this?
Thanks a lot!

I remember following this tut a while back...

I will take a look for you in a mo when I boot Ps. Having breakfast at the mo lol.

Okay,

select a foreground color, and make sure the "only web colors" box at the bottom is unchecked.

if that's the case and doesn't fix the gradient, go: Image>mode>RGB

if that doesn't fix it, go Image>mode>16bit/chanel

It was on 8 bit. Tnx chrisix putting it on 16 bit solved the problem.
I don't know much about colors and settings concerning colors. Tnx for the help!

there wern't enough colors to make the shades between those "waves"
16bit should give enough colors, if it still gives some waves, use 32 bit ^^

Hi Chrisix,

Here with another question concerning the 'banding' in gradient.
In my file above your suggestion to put it on 16bit helped me a lot.
But in another file I still get banding or ripples. Even when I make sure everything is like you said.
Any ideas on how to solve it? Because I always have a lot of issues with it. Does is has to do with color profiles or something.

Many thanks in advance for helping this noob out.
