Does anyone know of any good tutorials for creating a 3-d looking ribbon? I've tried playing around with it but can't quite get the effect that I'm trying for.

Thanks!!

Fastest and easiest way I know is to make a rectangle. use a slight gradient fill, then using a combination of Transform and Liquify, you can bend and flip it...

I'm in the middle of something right now, will try to post an example this evening...

Someone else may have a better way posted before then.

Hi LoRah, ;) Welcome to the crazyhouse.

Post up what you have so far. This will give folks an idea of where to advise you, rather than posting a full tutorial.

Al.

Like anything else, you need to experiment.

Here is a basic rectangle with a very obvious gradient, the effects of the "Shear" filter, the Liquify Tool, and the "wave" filter.

It all depends on the effect you are trying to achieve. Practice and experiment, and you'll find you become much more comfortable with Photoshop than simply following a step-by-step proceedure that might not quite be what you're looking for.

Good Luck!

MS from Oz ...good to have wizards on board.
And I'm not talking about electronic ones...

(does this save him the trip?)

Another good candidate for.... yes... ... you guessed it...

Displace. :D

And of course, the definitive tutorial on beginning with displace:

http://www.gurusnetwork.com/tutorials/photoshop/displace1.html

I've used dmaps to build filmstrips, ribbons, etc. and it works well... plus the added bonus that you can use the dmap to shade your work when you're done ;)

Some extreme bends will have to be drawn by hand, but this makes like super easy. :).... once you learn it. heh

There are some really good tips and suggestions here.

You haven't mentioned the word "bow" yet but I sorta like the ribbon and bow tut on this site: http://www.chadogroup.com/carla/red_bow/

I've used it several times and have been happy with the outcome

Sinedots adds a little extra translucency to the effect if that is what you are after.

Joyful
:D

Ms Oz happy you are happy! I'll look around for more sinedot tuts however, I sorta like monkeying around with them without tuts because the anticipation is greater %} %} %}

Maybe another member has a nice collection of links to share. [shhh] [shhh] [shhh]

We have had some threads on Sinedot some time ago...

It's one of those plugins that cannot be reproduced in Photoshop...

Thanks for this link, o Joy, and I will look for some more. I may have something, but wherefrom???

I've got a Mac so I'll have to miss out on this plug-in.

It's one of those plugins that cannot be reproduced in Photoshop

Is that a challenge? [:I

LoRah, could you shed some light on what you are looking for?

Cute bows Lily, I like them, many thanks. :righton: :righton: :righton:

Well, err...if you can reproduce what this plugin can in Photoshop, I'm shure your name will be famous around the globe...

We'll post some xamples soon...

This plug-in is AWESOME!

I'm having a blast playing with this thing!

It doesn't work as well in Painter 8, you have to have a black background, whereas in Photoshop you can have transparent ones, but it's a very interesting toy in both apps! It will be fun to try to incorporate it into images!

Woo Hoo, I've found BOW TUTORIAL CODES!!!
http://www.rosiehardman.com/sinedot2codes.htm

What a cool thing to play with for the Holiday Season!
If I can find the time, I think I'm going to make a few and start a ribbon challenge...anybody else interested in playing? [honesty]

MS about bow challene --You bet! we can tie one on! go go go good tut thanks for passing along. :righton:
