Reusing a selection

Hi - I will try to simplify my problem to better explain.

I have a photo of a house. I have selected the window frame and subtracted from the selection, the window sash itself. Therefore I can color the window frame. This is on Layer 1.

Now I want to select the house and deselect the window so I can color the house. I select the house and make it Layer 2. But I need to remove (deselect) the window from the selection because it was colored already.

Is it possible to copy Layer 1 and inverse the selection and somehow merge it with layer 2?

I am trying to reuse my selections in other layers so I don't have to keep selecting them and not having any luck.

Hope I got you correctly...

Make a layer copy of the window.... Merge with a copy of the house.... This layer you name FINISH..... hide when you don't need to add finished elements (put a lock on it so you don't accidentally edit or merge with something(unlock when needed).

Use the original window for future selections.... CTRL+click layer icon.....

Hope it helps.

I'm thinking you can create a new layer for the house, drop down & activate the the window layer, ctrl click the thumbnail and that brings up your original selection for the window, back to & activate the house layer and the window selection will still be there.

If I merge both layers and go to Select - Load Selection, it only gives me the one layer selection.

If I go into Select - Load Selection, when layers are not merged, but hi-lighted, I have a choice to load the selection of Transparancy from either layer. Once I go in again and choose a different selection, the other disappears.

Save the window selection (WINDOW). Select the house and save that selection (HOUSE).

Load the WINDOW selection, click Select-Save Selection. Choose the HOUSE selection from the dropdown list and select Subtract from Channel.
