This is a old tin type photo from 1850 of the famous opera singer Jenny Lind. Critiques are welcome but it's just fun to me, so be gentle. Somebody tell me what's wrong with the phonograph.

I'm dumb-founded. Great job, man. I like how well you were able to pull details out of the shadows.

not much that I can see; except, maybe since you added shadows to Jenny and her chair but not to the phonograph, it looks a little flat in the picture now.

Personally, I would *never* add or remove items, e.g., the phonograph, shadows, etc., from a historical photo that is to be "restored". Sure, I might do it for fun, or if the fantasy intent of image is clear, but never, ever from an image like this that will likely be indexed by Google and possibly retrieved years into the future, without any context.

I saw those Tom. I am not attempting to compete with those images. I am sorry that my for fun composition might not meet everyone's approval for years to come, but I'm 67 years old, so I won't be around to have to defend it.
By the way, the phonograph should not even be in the image, not because it is "improper" to do so, but because of history. Thomas Edison did not invent it until the late 1800's, so no such thing existed in 1850. My bad, it did not occur to me to look it up until after I posted it, so I thought I would have a little fun with it.

BTW, there are some very nice restorations of that image to be found on the web, e.g.,

and

You might want to compare yours to theirs.

Cheers,

Nice bit of trivia. I wouldn't even have thought to look up the invention date to see if it was a proper period piece.

Thanks for the compliment, it is appreciated. See my reply to Tom M for the answer about the phonograph. By the way, your right about the drop shadow on it, forgot to do it.

Nice job here mate... looks good. Remove the drop shadow from the lady and make the whole scene flat and it should look better.

Cheers Mate !!!
