Resizing Assistance

So I've had this avatar for quite a while now, and have been fine with its 104x120 dimensions. That is until I started encountering more and more websites requiring avatars be larger, some at least 250x250 and others 500x500. That's what has led me to ask what the best approach to resizing my avatar without distorting it or losing much quality would be, or if it would even be possible without having to simply recreate it.

Who did the original, and then who did the santa version?
If it was you surely making one bigger is no real problem, if it is try illustrator if you want nice clean lines.

I made the original quite a while ago, but the Santa one, as well as a few other seasonal ones I made more recently. I personally prefer working with smaller icons because the larger I make them, the more detail I feel I have to put in, and being a perfectionist, that can be quite frustrating. Not to mention I'm quite happy with how the original turned out and trying to recreate it just wouldn't produce the same results. I'm saying this based on experience because I did try starting it out haha. As for Illustrator, well, I don't have that. I merely have Photoshop and was hoping to contain the work within that.

All done in Illustrator, although possible to do in Photoshop, I find it is not as intuitive for vectors. I would usually try and get it more like the original, but I was doing it to take time up. Just been on a three month beer binge, so I'm trying to stay in, but getting bored easy.

Oh wow, that looks amazing! I had merely created it playing around in Photoshop, but you brought it up well beyond that. I assume Illustrator is something I should work towards getting then? Seems like having the two of them available to work between would be beneficial. But honestly, thank you so much, it really looks great and turned out far better than what I was going for!

It's all down to how much you need to do vector images, and how much time you are willing to spend learning it. Illustrator is just as complex as Photoshop, but in different ways.

Glad you like it.

Nice work Spruce, just wish i could knuckle down and get to grips with illustrator such an excellent program.
