[Request] Colorization of two old photos

Good evening!

My grand-parents' birthday (born 4 days away from each other) is coming in about 10 days, and I thought it would be nice if I could give them a colorized version of two pictures they like.

I had to capture them with a camera because I wanted to do it without them seeing, I really hope the quality is good enough.

The whole family:

Their now deceased daughter:

I have a few other versions if needed, but I think those are the best.

Thank you very much in advance, it would mean a lot to me and to them!

Artalis, this is very involved work. You may find that there is a member who wants to practice these skills.

But if not, I would strongly suggest you look at our freelance guidelines, study the price schedule, (which is extremely reasonable) and ask us mods to move this to the freelance forum. You will get more than one competing and watermarked example to choose from. Once paid, you will be given full resolution photos without the watermarks. Of course.

If you do go the paid route, please deal only with our trusted freelancers who will post their intent in your thread. Good luck either way.

By the way, you are welcome to negotiate prices with the freelancer you choose. Our guidelines are just that, guides, and not necessarily the last word. Your colorization is not on the list and depending on the complexity would probably fall anywhere from enhancement to restoration. Prices subject to your mutual agreement.

I do a good many of these. If you put them in freelance I would be interested.
Here is a screenshot of one I did recently of a public domain photo FYI.

I did the family portrait seeing it is in free section.
fams.jpg:mrgreen: Just a few layers with varying depths of muted colours applied, rushed to get the image on line but you get the idea.

I did it too. I enlarged this to 7x5 so you can get a good print from it..bein we're doing a freebie here.

Thank you all for your replies.

A quick question: what difference can I expect between a free work and a paid one? Does anyone have a thread with some examples?

Thank you very much!

Hi Artilis,
Just speaking for myself, I take a lot more care and scrutinize my work much closer if I am working for a paying client. The reason you got "grey gums" as was pointed out, I posted the photo after doing it hastily, as I had other obligations to fulfill and wanted to get it posted before I started other work. That type of thing can be easily edited and I most certainly would have checked very closely anything that was for pay and not presented that errror. I guess the old adage "haste makes waste" applies.
There is also no guarantee that what you might print on your home printer would match what you see on the screen. That is due to the difference in monitors and calibration of same to your printer. I would offer to print the photo for you and mail it to you from my calibrated system if you were buying the service. I also have capability to hot laminate the prints to protect them for future use.
Hope that serves to answer your question.

As a discussion forum, we prefer to instruct people on how to do these sort of things in Photoshop. There may be those here who would be willing to help out but doing edits like these is definitely time consuming.

As a freebie, one can only expect so much that could be done. Hiring a qualified PSG member/freelancer, one can be assured that time and attention will be put into doing this and you are assured of quality results.

This is our freelance pay for service section where you'll find samples of work within its threads done by members qualified to respond to job offers posted - http://www.photoshopgurus.com/forum...vice-section/40719-rules-psg-freelancers.html.

This our guideline price list - http://www.photoshopgurus.com/forum...nce-job-please-read-first.html#post1533609548 - which is in our customer guideline thread. This serves as minimum suggested pricing and freelancers are allowed to negotiate on a price with you.

I don't believe we have examples of what can be done one way or the other, since the interest of the members for any request vary widely. What I can add, is that if you are unsatisfied with the results, you have a much better chance of negotiating for something you like . . . as long as you don't expect numerous edits because you haven't explained in full what you want.

SO keep that in mind.

A free edit from me usually takes no more than 20 minutes and then i reduce size a bit and never really bother cleaning edges etc, others differ in there free approach.
Some ONLY do freelance and nothing else here...
