Replace image with text/black background with another image

Hi Guys, this might be a two part question. I have 2 images, one that I'd like to use for the background. The other is an image of text with a black background. How can I remove the background for the image that has text (I'm guessing there's a way to make it transparent?) and replace it with the image I'd like to use as the background? Any help would be super appreciated!

Play with the layer mode settings... In my example, the text on black layer was set at lighten and with brightness adjusted to maximum to bring out the white text.

Before you do this, make sure that your text image has been adjusted to show the darkest black and whitest white without any visible pixelation.

This may differ with the images you have. But the key is to experiment with the mode settings.
