Is there a layer or transparency trick that you guys can do in photoshop 7 that can remove text without any tools being used

If you remove something, you have to replace it with something else. Presumably, that "something else" has to be a believable replacement, for example, whatever was behind the removed object but wasn't shown in the original image.

Humans can make a good guess at what was there, but software isn't so smart. This is why the clone and patch tools are so useful -- under human control, they can pull in other parts of the image to the needed area.

Content-aware fill is an attempt by software to do this automatically, but it's a hit-or-miss approach.

Removing text is easy....Making it look good is another matter.

I suspect that will happen when PS comes with a filter "To remove trees from head"

One thing you could do is select one letter at a time. Move the selection to a part of the image that will fit fairly well to cover the letter. Then change to the move tool and hold down opt/alt. Now you will move that section of image back to the place it was. It may take a little painting, or sigh, again the clone tool, but it might work for you, maybe a little faster.

That sounds kind of a daft question because you have to use something to make a change. Unless you are using a pedantic definition for 'tools'. Is there a particular reason you want to exclude the most useful options for making the edit?
