Removing tape from an image

I've scanned in an image and have it cleaned up aside from removing a piece of tape on the right side. It goes over the girl's arm and shirt sleeve, and I'm trying to find the best way to remove it. The photo will be printed at 3"x5", so some detail can be lost. I've managed to remove the super-noticeable edges of the tape, but about half of her arm is also different in color b/c of the tape. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I'm using Photoshop Elements 2.0, in case that makes a difference for any filters one might suggest.

heya Aron Parsons :D :D its great to have ya on the board :righton: :righton:
would you mind posting the image for us :D :D that way "we" can maybe fix it for ya ;) ;) but im sure some of the gurus here will have some helpful suggestions anyways :D :D

Hi Aron and welcome to the board :righton:

Can you post an example of this image, something smaller than 600 pixels; just post a new reply, type some text, go to the bottom of the screen and click on the browse button to select your image and click on submit.

We're more than happy to help you out, but we really need to see the image.

Thanks ;)

Welcome aboard Aron Parsons! :D

Geoff and Gaussian are right... it would help to see the image! ;)

That important point aside, and without seeing it, offhand I would suggest that you might try "cloning" the skin from the good area of the subject's arm over the bad area...

Be sure to "Save target as", as Geocities doesn't allow hotllinking of photos.

Here's a compressed version of the image. You can see the tape on the right edge of the photo. I haven't had a chance to play around with it anymore, but when I tried cloning other parts of the skin I just couldn't get it to look right.

Aron, I don't know what tools "Elements" has, but I was able to quickly repair the "tape area" of the photo with the "patch tool" in Photoshop 7. ;)

Example here...

B7 Aron! I'm glad that I was able to help....

[innocent] Something tells me that you'll be wanting to upgrade to PS real soon...

And hey, thanks for the comps, Geoff & Sue! :) That patch tool isn't one that I use often (I'm still an old school "cloner") but it was perfect in this instance. ;)

Nice work Wendy :righton:

Couldnt resist playing with the lighting and coloring a bit :)

Stu.
