Relative Beginner Having Resolution Issues

While I am working on a project the work space keeps going black making it really difficult to work on. Is this a resolution issue with my monitor, or is there some setting within photoshop that is causing this?

Probably your graphics card drivers need to be updated.
Visit the manufacturer's website to download the latest driver.

Checked that. Looks like I already have the most current driver for the video card. I guess I will try working on this on my laptop and see if I have the same issue.

In preferences, try turning off Use Graphics Processor and restart Photoshop.
