Reducing glare?

What's the best way to take out the glare in this portion of the photo? I've tried adjustments to brightness/contrast as well as shadows/highlights. Nothing is getting me there. I've also tried color picking and brushing over...that looked like a 3rd grader spray painted it. :joy:

Not an expert with fauxtogrophy, looking to learn something here. Thanks!

Not sure what you're going for.

Here, I reduced the glare by making a selection around the object...

....on a new layer I used the Brush Tool with low settings (flow at 1%) and a soft brush to fill in the area. Sample from both ends because the hues are different, and blend slowly.

I then changed the blending mode of the brushed layer to "Darken", and lowered it's opacity to 90%

Here it is with the opacity at 85%.
You can continue down depending on how much you want to reduce the glare.

This is at 60% opacity.
