Recovering documents after a crash?

is there any way of recovering an unsaved Photoshop Document after Photoshop crahses? i've just worked for ages on a project and photoshop suddenly crashed on me. not happy in the slightest.

Nope! May I recommend getting in the habit of saving frequently.

I'm guessing you're not using CS6?
If you are though there's auto-save and auto-recovery in CS6.
How it works I'm not sure.

nope not using CS6 anymore, it was a trial version, the main version i use is CS5

I tested out the CS6 recovery with no luck so far.
I waited 10 min for the auto save and then stopped PS through task Manager (Windows)
No recovery.

it could be in the event of a full blown photo-shop crash.

it should be a main feature of photoshop, i mean you are paying more than £500 for a single license, and it doesn't have something a free office program has? a bit infuriating.

You have to make sure you have the box checked under file handling in preferences however this is only for cs6

I do, and I waited 10 minutes before shutting down PS.
I'll try again and wait a little longer.

I waited a little longer this time and it worked fine.
