Hello!

I've recently restored a photograph of my girlfriends great-grandmother as a child and would like some feed-back and what you think on the piece so far. I've spent quite a while on this one so far, as most of the left hand side and the walls detail had gone completely so I had to rebuilt & paint them myself! (pain)

Probably spent around 2 hours on this piece up to now.

Everything on it look really good thus far, apart from one thing! Her left leg, on the right edge where the crease used to be, it is not as straight as what a leg should be. Thought I would say in case you had not noticed. Well done on getting this far with it though.

Very nice work Dom. Great painting!

My comment, since I think everything else is really good, is that the face looks stiff. I think this is because the transition between highlight and shadow is too great, and perhaps there is too much shadow on the left side, especially from the inside eye down to the nose and on the cheek to the hair. The right side of the nose is also a little straight maybe. Seems to me that it needs more definition. She just needs more softness. This was generally the style of photographs then; to mimic painted portraits.

Wow! Amazing picture and the advance effects that makes the picture totally new and natural. Actually this results relates to total restoration procedure that can change old ordinary things into new digital one. I really admire that and thank for sharing such techniques.

i would play a bit with dodge - burn tool on midtones on forehead and edges of the subject to make it subtle more lifelike.
just a thought, great job i have to say, especially it's for the girlfriend;-)
i can't tell on the photos posted if you already have done it, but you may desaturate whole thing and manually restore sepia effect in order to get coloring more constant and get rid of the unwanted color stains.
