Quick mask anomaly

I am using the brush tool to highlight an area in quickmask mode that I want to select. When I select an area, it does not completely cover the area...almost as if the opacity was less than 100%. I have opacity set for 100% and Flow set at 100% and am using a 100% hardness setting. I confirm this by creating a new layer from the selected area and it is clearly semi-transparent. The layer setting is at 100% opactiy too.

Basically, anything selected with a brush or fill tool of any kind fails to provide complete opacity for a selected area (even if I click the brush on the area several times...etc)

I did a reinstall of PShop (using 7.0) and nothing changed. Even my recent files were still listed. It was almost as if I didnt reinstall at all. That also seems wierd.

This only started happening about two weeks ago. No idea why.

This brush problem does not occur when not in QM mode at all. The brush only acts funny in QM mode.

When I select an area with the marquis tool, and then enter QM mode and say...try to add to it with the brush tool, it is visually evident that the brush tool is not covering the area the same amount. In fact, if you click the brush on an already highlighted area (from the marquis tool selected area) it quite obviously lightens the highleted area.

Basically it is impossible to completley select an area of an image using the QM mask and the brush tools (or fill tools...paintbucket does the same thing) and it just doesnt seem to make any sense.

I know this is something I must have accidentally changed, because my other computer, running the very same version, does not do this.

Anyone have any ideas?
