PSE 6 or Photoshop CS2 - Help with CANON RAW

Hi Folks,

I'm new to this forum, and new to CANON .CR2 files, having just bought a CANON 1000D. (My old Canon G2 produced .CRW files)

I've had Photoshop as part of CS2 for a while, and used to open my .CRW files in Camera Raw to adjust white balance etc. When I got the new camera I picked up a trial copy of PSE, version 6 I think. I allowed me to open the new Canon Raw files (which are now .CR2 files, not CRW). PSE also gave me some interesting controls over blacks etc and also let me adjust the exposure - even of just the underexposed parts of a photo (cant remember exactly now what the slider was called)

So now that the PSE trial has run out I'm back with CS2, but it's disappointing. Photoshop won't let me open CR2 files in Camera Raw, nor will it let me open JPEGs in Camera Raw - which PSE did let me do. Also, I liked the interface in PSE.

So, two questions really!

1. Can my Photoshop (in CS2, 9.0.2) be persuaded to open CR2 or even JPEG files in Camera Raw?

2. If not, is it worth me paying for a new copy PSE, and if I do, will it be back-compatible with all the other parts of CS2 (not that I use them much!)

Thanks!!!!

Tim

PS I should add that I'm a Mac user, hence PSE 6 rather than 7, as I don't think there's a version 7 for Mac yet...
