PS and Fireworks to Dreamweaver

Hi All! I've made some mock up pages in PS and then sliced them in Fireworks and published. It works. However, I have a few questions.

1. How should you add the content in Dreamweaver? I inserted a layer box and that worked, but...

2. Should I "punch out" areas for content? And then just put the correct color in the cell that is left?

Thanks!!

Hi Kim...

I would suggest for your own sake that unless you really NEED layers in your html pages, i'd stick to tables. They're much more tried'n'true.

As to your #2 question, i'd suggest yes, because that's a much simpler and more solid way to work. Only use the 'high-end' stuff when there's no other way.

These suggestions are coming from an "old school" methodology, so you may well get some suggestions from folks more keen to apply the newer technologies. I suggest you simply weigh the differences and gleen whatever suites you best. :B

I'm a heavy Photoshop/Dreamweaver user, and I agree with Mark, tables are better. In time they may become better but I have not as of yet found them to be as flexible.

As for the other question:

I think I read that in Fireworks you can specify which slice will house the content, but I use PS so I dont know. yes, what I do is have one slice be the content, and then just delete the contents in that slice once I have it in Dreamweaver and then put in some clear gifs to keep it the same size if needed.
This is off-subject but do you use Templates in Dreamweaver? They are EXTREMELY useful tools, and are sort of like a big slice of content that can change from page to page, while the rest of your site remains the same. If you have not checked them out and you value your time, check them out!!!! Hope this helps.

Helps a lot!

I still draw guides in Photoshop, and snap selections that I crop, noting the sizes on a piece of paper. Then I start creating that table...

I'll try out some templates soon.

May I ask something else, a bit off-topic: DW refuses to have me change the document size: everything is greyed out. As I love MX' interface, this is a bit of a nuisance. Any idea how come? I tried preferences,...nothing helps.
