Problems saving files

Hi there,

I am working with PS CS5 Extended Version 12.0.4 x64 and I am having what I think is a newbie problem.

The sequence of events is as follows:

a) Copy a picture from a vector PDF file using either Acrobat Reader or Acrobat 9.5.

b) Create a new PS CS5 file and paste the copied picture in it.

c) Remove the background and edit a bunch of pixels.

d) Save file in GIF format instead of PSD format.

Here come the problems:

I) The name of the file on the tab does not change and, instead, it remains as Untitled-1.

II) The Open Recent list does not update.

III) Any subsequent attempt to "Save" the file after making more changes to it requires re-entering the file name and the file format, as if doing a "Save As".

IV) At least in one occasion, renaming the file after changing the image size (just added the letter "b" to the name) did not create a new file, but it replaced the existing file.

This last issue left me without the original file, although Windows did keep the name of the original file in its own Recent list. However, clicking on the shortcut takes me to the new file.

Are there any settings I need to change or is the problem just between the chair and the monitor?

Thanks!
