Maybe I'm just stupid, but...

Everything seems to work ok as far as i can tell, until i get to the last step after you delete the old starburst layer. I create a new layer for the color of choice and fill it, but it fills the entire image with that color. Do i need to swap around layer order, am I missing a step or is there a different way of filling i don't understand/know about?

What am I missing? :(|

well if you posted a link to what tut you where talking about the it will be mutch easier for us to help you =)

wild gues did you forget to make a selection ore some thing of the layer you deleted ?? maby but with out the tut i have no clue =)

Rock on

Welcome Freefour! :)

[saywhat] Nobody is 'stupid' around here and be assured, there's no such thing as a stupid question! We're all either in the process of learning something new or imparting that what we know! :D

Just read the tute carefully! ;) After you've added your layer of "color" Mark says to change it's Blend Mode (the layer blend mode) to one of these: Overlay/Softlight/Color Burn/Color.

Refer to this image to find out how to change the layer blend mode. ;)

:) Carry on then...

.. welcome Freefour .. I hadn't done that tute so I gave it a go and it worked ok .. it's the last step that you are missing (when you make new layer and fill it with colour and then change thaat layer to 'overlay' (etc) - pic below probably explains better ... well done on posting your working image it helps heaps in 'seeing' the problem ... :)

:righton: Good man Ian... that's what I was "trying" to say! But you took the time to be more "specific" and depict it better! :}

Wendy (wbiss) .. you must have posted I was constructing reply [doh] ... :bustagut: :bustagut: ... ah well better 2 replies than none eh? ... :D

.. you did it again Wendy (wbiss) .. replied while I was replying! .. me thinks me should take typing lessons, my 20 wpm is no match :bustagut: :bustagut:

What a GREAT board...two members struggling to be the first one to answer a question! :D

Way to go!!!!! :} :} :} :}

I'm going to bookmark this thread and show it to new members [excited]

;\ But you still did it better Ian! ;)

[saywhat] 20wpm... you don't stand a chance! [:I :P

Actually, I figured out what it was... I guess either I missed something, or read "too far" into the tutorial. I think I may have done something backwards. After deleting the old black layer and DESELECTING, i created a new layer without having the star shape selected, so instead of filling the selection on the new layer i was flooding the entire layer.

But, thanks to everyone for the replies, and so quickly as well. :D

btw, here is final after fooling around with it.

Great job with the tutorial!

Hey FreeFour,

You accomplished this tut better than I. :) I just worked that tut myself day before yesterday. I never was able to get the black background back. Here are my results. Where oh where did I go wrong? LOL. I may not be posting my results right, cause I'm not sure about compression and all in Photoshop so if it is not good and within guidelines, would someone please feel free to delete it?

Good job on the tutorial Freefour! :righton:

Dawn, I would suggest that you go back and do the tutorial again. ;) It's always a good idea to do something like this two or three times, to get the knack of the technique "down pat"! Somehow, you've lost the black layer but I'm sure that if you tried it once more and read "very carefully", you'll get the desired result! :)

I totally agree with Wendy and guess what... you might even discover a new approach ;)

Don't feel bad Dawn, I took a few tries to figure out what I was doing wrong. Then once it came out right, I ran through it a few more times, mainly to "somewhat" commit it to memory, as mine is terrible. ;)

It also gave me a chance to fool around with some of the Blend Modes in the Layer palette. I believe I liked "Vivid Light" the best, that's the one I used in the fuschia star I posted.

Btw, great job on yours... it kinda reminds me of keyframe from a little animation I did in 3DS Max a while back. It has a nice soft look, like a movie companies intro, ala HBO. :righton:

hey Dawn your image is fine ........ no need to delete anything there and it looks cool too :righton:

I see the psg team are having race :bustagut: :bustagut: :bustagut: nowhere else in the world would you find such free enthusiasm (sp?) you guys are just too cool :} :}

freefour yours looks great too and I am glad you figured it out :D
