Problem with saving in png. format in cs4 help needed

So for a while now I've been making my own t shirts on zazzle and I do this by adding my own photos and designs that I customize in Photoshop and then upload to the site. Usually after I'm finished editing my design I save it as a png. because that file type seems to come out best for me however lately after saving some images in png they wont reopen when I click on them. When I right click the image and go to properties it lists the file type as "file" (not png).This happens with any image i try to save as png. Its weird because I'm pretty sure Im doing nothing different than before. Also I notice when I try to save i get a message that says "file must be saved as a copy with this selection" not sure if that has anything to do with my issue.

I'm using PS CS4
and have windows vista if that helps

It has happened to me a few times as well.
Do you have your settings where your file extensions show?

I think so because other older files I have made before and downloaded show either jpeg or png at the end.

Dunno if this will help but try changing the file attribute extension to .png . Not in PS but the file in its folder....
