Problem editing text

Hope i'm in the right place for getting help with a specific photoshop problem.

A friend has sent me a psd file of a flyer he's done for me so that I can continue with his concept but alter the next as and when new events need to be publicised.

I'm having trouble editing the text. Im selecting the horizontal text tool, selecting the appropriate layer from the layers menu at the right hand side. BUT when it comes to clicking on the layer, photoshop seems to think that I want to create a new layer.

I hope this makes sense and I would be grateful to hear suggestions as to what I may be doing wrong.

Thanks.

Is the text layer rastorized?

If not, then double click the T (thumbnail) of the text layer. Then click on the actual text in the document to bring up a prompt and alter the text.

Thanks, I seem to have solved it. The layer was hidden because the text was in a font that isn't avail on computer - therefore the font had been replaced on a hidden layer. So the next thing to figure out is how to get the fonts I want on Photoshop such as 'Narkisim.' I'll look for a thread about it as I'm sure there is one.
