Hi vancarcious, and welcome to the form.

Based on the screenshot you have provided, I can tell by looking at your layers panel that you already have your TEXT(with layer styles) and the LAMB on separate layers.

All you need to do to give them a transparent background is to turn off the BG layer by clicking on the eye icon (indicated by arrow),

If you want to copy those two layers, just highlight one by clicking, hold your shift key and click on the other, then hit Command/Control + J.

Let me know if this did not answer your question.

The files have are on the overlay effect, if I take the BG away then the text will go back to what it used to be. I want to crop the text onto a transparent BG without it losing it's effect.

The effect you have applied to the text is in the form of a layer style that is attached to the text layer, it does not go away when you turn off the BG layer. It's just not as obvious.

Try this, add a new layer between the BG and the text and make it white, does the effect go away?

If your text layer effects is dependent on the colors of the BG via overlay, then we have a whole different issue. Is that what's happening?

The PSD: upload .ee /files / 3987554/ innocentinn2 . psd. html

I'm doing this for a roleplay server, bla bla, basically I made that flyer but I also want the logo (the 2 texts around the lamb and the lamb) separately to be transparent. But the way it functions is that it's lying over the rusty paper layer which is the reason the text looks like it does and I can't copy it over to another layer or making BG transparent without it losing the effect.

Try this to see if t will help your problem...

Duplicate your background by highlighting the layer and hitting Command/Control + J.
Turn off the original BG layer.
Leave the duplicated BG layer highlighted.
Then hit Command/Control + click the text layers thumbnail to make a selection of the text.
Hit Shift + Command/Control + I to inverse the selection.
Hit delete.
You should now have a cutout version of the background in the shape of your text.

You can now merge these two or just move both to where you need them.

Let me know if this worked.

If needed, you can post a psd here. Just use the insert image icon in the reply window, select the psd and upload.

Great! It was my fault that I was not understanding, you explained yourself perfectly. I'm glad it worked for you.

IamSam he can select the bot the text and the lamb image and drag it to the create a new layer icon to copy the both layers and then use it on other image also right ??

Yes Zoe, that would duplicate the lamb layer and the text layer. You still must highlight both layers and then drag them to the icon. It's easier to hit Command/Control + J.

The problem they were having, was that the effect they wanted to duplicate was the text layer, which was in Overlay mode and utilizing it's underlying BG layer to contribute to the effect.

When the BG layer was removed the text effect was lost. That's why we cut out a duplicate of the BG layer in the shape of the text so that it could be copied or moved elsewhere to be used.

Now three layers will have to be moved or copied.
