I'm using Ps Cs 5 in Win 7 Pro and lately I have been having problems with the polygonal lasso tool completing the selection if I don't click exactly at the beginning of the selection. I reset the tool but that didn't help. It's so aggravating because I often can't see exactly where I started. Someone please tell me how to fix this.

Hi meamjw

I have misunderstood your question yet if your are just trying to finish the selection and you are close to the starting point, all you have to do is double click the mouse/trackpad and it should finish the selection.

This is normal. Just double click like John advised.

Apparently I did not make it clear; I know how it is supposed to work and it did work correctly for years but now when I get near the starting point and double click I have to be exactly on the starting point or the selection is not completed and, as I said, I often have great difficulty seeing exactly where the starting point is. Until recently if I was within a quarter inch or so it would complete.

Perhaps I wasn't clear. Depending on the background image that your attempting to use the Polygonal Lasso Tool on, it is very COMMON/NORMAL for you to not be able to see the starting point of the selection. The line itself blends so well with the background that it can't be easily seen. Most Ps users do not notice it until they start using the tool on involved backgrounds or straight edges. The best solution is to double click when you think your near the starting point and the selection will close automatically. Also try zooming in close to where you believe the starting point is and you can often times see it better. If you're using the tool to make precise selections then your using the wrong tool. Use the Pen Tool, it will have anchor points that can easily be seen and moved if needed.

Now, if you believe that your tool and circumstance is different and special..............then try resetting your Ps preferences to see if that helps.
Close out Ps. Restart Ps and immediately hold down Ctrl+Alt+Shift, then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?
