Hi there,
I am new to Photoshop and web designing. With my basic knowledge I designed a kinda portfolio site called www.srisgallery.com. I designed the pages in Photoshop and saved them as png files and used Serif's Webplus X6 to put them together. All the buttons and their text etc I designed in Photoshop. My Brother-In-Law who saw my site first said the fonts are not clear and it's almost irritating to see this site in the IPad. I have to consider him as he is VP of Engineering in a software firm. Can somebody please tell me how rectify this? Should I only design the buttons in Photoshop and place the text in Serif's Webplus or Dreamweaver software or is there a way in photoshop to make sharp text. I did choose sharp option when I chose my font. Also is png the best format for placing in serif or Dreamweaver or is there any other way I have to do this to make a sharp and crisp website. Please help me.

Thanks
Srigi

At first glance, my suggestion is to make the all rights reserved into a normal Dreamweaver/web font and don't use the fancy font. Gor the title at the top, make it a lot larger. Adjust the rest of the page if necessary. I think you will find it much more readable without having to do anything else to correct it if it is larger. Yes, png is a good format for placing into Dreamweaver.

I don't do webpages but your border also has a case of the jaggys in the chamfers. If you have and know how to use Illustrator, you would do yourself a favor by creating the border and text as vectors. Your result should be a lot sharper, although text created in Photoshop is vector ,your apparently losing something along the way when it is rasterized. Png is a good website format as I believe it is less lossy than jpgs and it retains transparency.

Thanks to both of you for replying. I know some basic Illustrator. If I design the buttons in Illustrator or add just the text from Illustrator, should I save it as .ai or svg and place it in Photoshop where I made the rest of the template or should I save the illustrator file as png and place it in the Dreamweaver? Please clarify. Can somebody please point out a tutorial for the whole web designing procedure from start to finish to get a crisp finish.

Thanks a lot.

I think I would save it as an AI and then bring it into Photoshop. (Note, I don't use AI, I have used Corel Draw for years.)

AI is pure vector whereas even the vector lines are pixel based in Photoshop. So though PS has great capabilities for crisp lines, when shrunk too much the jaggies will become apparent.

I'm not sure about taking the AI file into PS at all. I'm not an Illustrator user myself but I should think PS would not be the best medium to then export. I'd take it straight into Dreamweaver and place it there.

Thanks for your reply. So, regarding web design, are there any limitations for Illustrator? What I mean is, I know we can do lot of things with Photoshop which we cannot do in Illustrator, but for basic web design, for eg.,to make buttons, templates, dividers etc, Graphic designers still rely on Illustrator for sharp and crisp output?

As I said, I am no expert. You may want to wait for someone who is to give you an opinion or someone who knows web design really well. Or you could start a new thread with this exact question in the Illustrator forum. Zero replies and specific forums often catch the eyes of experienced members. But first I would search the form for Illustrator web text or something to that effect. I think if you do an advanced search, you can specify the forum to search.
