HELP.jpg

Ok. I Had Been Working On This Drawing For Hours A While Back, Trying To Get A Certain Pattern Effect. I Pretty Much Got What I Wanted On A Few Layers. I Cannot Remember What I Did Though.
I've Highlighted The Layers I'm Referring To. First Off, Why Are There Blank Layers Next To The Pattern Layers With Chain Links Between Them?? Also I Know I Did Some Kind Of Pattern Fill. But When I Did It, I Was Able To Resize It. Now When I Try To Do A Regular Patterns It Just Puts It At A Default Size.

This Layer Is Different Than The Rest. When I Click On It This Menu Comes Up.

But When I Click On Any Of The Other 3, This One Comes Up.

HELP 4.jpg

I Had Worked Really Hard To Make Those Layers.. I Just Simply Cannot Remember At All What I Did..

Any Insight On What It Looks Like I Did Would Be Very Helpful. Thank You

The blank layers are layer masks.

What do the layers do when they are turned on?

A pattern overlay via a layer style will not work on a blank layer.

Here is white layer. I added a Pattern overlay using a layer style. Click the fx icon at the bottom of the layers panel and select Pattern Overlay. Or, you can just double click in the body of the layer itself and again check and highlight Pattern Overlay.

This is a great method because you can go back and adjust the pattern.

Now let's add a grey square on a new layer.

I want to add a pattern to the grey square. I create a new layer and go to EDIT > FILL and choose PATTERN, then chose a pattern. Click OK. (I would have to add the layer mask using this method)

OR.... I can click the New fill or adjustment layer icon located at the bottom of the layers panel. This method add the layer mask automatically.

Next I use the layer mask to cause the pattern to only affect the grey square.
