What do you expect?
The perspective of the tattoo is distorted, unevenly curved and incomplete.
Of course, with a lot of effort, we could correct the tattoo in PS or with the help of a 3D-forearm and many reference points, to unwrap the tattoo. However, both are much more complex than to create an individual design. Getting a 1:1 copy of an existing tattoo has never been a good idea. Who wants to be a copy of someone else?
In addition, it is no problem for a good tattoo artist to use a clean template such as mine to implement the desired effect directly while tattooing. If your tattoo artist is having trouble with this, you may want to look for another one.

This might be more in line with what the OP expects.
However I agree with [ iLLuSioN ] that his rendition is probably what a tattoo artist would want to work with and creatively add holes and spatters.

Picked up an illustration of a viking compass and began playing with it.
Fooled around with some grunge-type effects using filters and splatter brushes...may not be what's wanted but had fun doing it...
Just don't know exactly how a tattoo artist can replicate it...but saved it as a png with transparent background just in case...

Apologies for the late reply, but work has been flat out lately. Thank you iLLuSioN, ex_teacher and JeffK for your input. I love the suggestions and will definitely use one of them for the inking session. As far as copying someone else's tattoo - that's a fair point, but the image above will be incorporated into a sleeve so it should blend in with the rest nicely. Much appreciated guys! You always deliver.
