Placing an Image behind Multiple Lines of Text

I'm trying to duplicate an Oklahoma City Thunder shirt for my university.

I know how to place an image behind text, but I'm having trouble getting it to look like I want. If I use one big text box, I can't get the letters close enough together.

If I use multiple text boxes, I can't get all the clipping masks to come together right.

Is there anyway to nudge the text together like you can in indesign?

Just looking for any help here!

Thanks!

Hi, I would do each line of text in its own text box and then use the character tool to adjust kerning within the lines. OR, though tedious, each letter in its own layer to have full control of them. I would then suggest putting those layers in a group folder (either text box layers or individual letter layers), and applying the clipping mask to the folder. See if you are able to move the text as you please while only having to adjust a single clipping mask. Does that answer your question? Since I'm new, I am not allowed to link but I did find a youtube video called Photoshop CS6 Public Beta- Group Clipping Masks, by Dave Cross.
