Pixel Grid

Is there a way I can save my preferences to be the same for every new file that I open.

I'm not a fan of the pixel grid which appears when I zoom in deeply and although I know how to turn it off it resets upon opening a new image.

I've looked through the preferences and even saved a new workspace just incase this would do it but still haven't been able to save it. I'm running CS 5 Extended on a Mac.

Any help would be much appriciated.

Thank You
Stacy

Stacy, In CS6, I can go to VIEW > SHOW > PIXEL GRID and tick it off. It does not reset when I open a new document.

Hi Stacy,

Sounds like you may have a corrupt prefs file.

Try this method from Adobe TV, it's for CS6 but from what I gather it will be the same for CS5 too.

How to Reset Photoshop CS6’s Preferences File

Although it's not mentioned in the video I'd back-up the whole Photoshop Settings folder just to be sure....rather than just the one or two files.

Also, after saving your folder, do the second method first...if this fixes the problem then you know it's definitely prefs issue. Then restore your prefs using your back-up and do the first method. If that fixes the issue then job done and you've only had to change the one file, if not at least you know its one of the remaining files......which one you'll have to figure out yourself.

Regards.

Okey Dokey!
I've taken some time today to look through my options for PS and other software I use and have decided to upgrade to CC so I shall wait for the new install of that and see if that solves the problem, I'm guessing with a new clean install a new preferences file should be generated?

That's true.... but you can also try resetting the preference now to see if it helps clear up problems with your current version.......

To reset ..... Hold down Command+Option+Shift a split second after launching PS. You will be prompt to reset the preference file.

IMPORTANT.... Don't forget to de-activate the previous version before installing CC unless you intend to use the old version on that very cpu.....

I've reset my preferences file and it worked a treat thank you!
I've also uninstalled my adobe software before attempting to install CC as you suggested! Although the download is taking FOREVER!! Should have waited until it was down I suppose

It's not only the actual uninstall but the DE-ACTIVATION of the initial installation. This is found in MENU>HELP......... Why adobe came up with this I'll never understand when they could have added this feature as a default in the uninstall process.....

The trouble the user has to go to contact adobe if conflict problem arises because they forgot to de-activate the old version.
