Photoshop window lighter than when I save.

I'm having a fair bit of trouble working this one out. When I paste/open an image file into Photoshop CS3, It is brighter than the original image. When I save it goes back to normal. Heres an example of the saved version and the screenshoted version out of photoshop.

Thats a fair amount of difference, and I need help.

I am going to re-install photoshop soon, but haven't got around to it yet.
 
First step in correcting this would be to make sure that you have color calibrated your monitor. Run Adobe Gamma or Colorsync and generate a calibrated profile.

Then, make sure you are working in your documents with a standard color profile such as sRGB or AdobeRGB 1998.

Try both of those things and see if it helps, but bear in mind that you can't control how other people view your images on the web... so there is always a chance of those images looking different than you expect.
