Photoshop tutorial

Greetings everyone.
I'm new to this photoshop 'scene' and I was trying to train with some of your tutorials.
I was trying to follow this one

but I can't seem to do the last step, which is, to use the brush tool with color blend mode to paint the hair black. When I do it, the hair just looks desaturated instead of going black.
Does anyone have any idea why?

Try a new layer b4 you do the hair- also make sure that your opacity level is high- and make sure your mode (in the drop down box beside of your brush presets) is set to color. Hope that helps!
