I DESPERATELY need help with this issue.

For the past two months I haven't been able to use most of the tools in the Toolbox: Healing Tool, Clone Stamp Too, Burn, Dodge, Sponge, etc. I can use the crop tool. I uninstalled & reinstalled Photoshop several times. I've done a search & deleted EVERYTHING that has Photoshop in the file. I even purchased a new OEM version only to find out the serial number is invalid & I can't register it for Tech Support. I can't afford to pay $600 for a new version from Adobe. I'm behind on several clients portraits & am losing many more because I can't deliver the edited photos. Can someone PLEASE help?!

Thank You

Welcome to the community sky, we hope you enjoy your stay. [honesty]

First thing i'd ask you to do is check to see what MODE your document is in. Under the IMAGE menu, choose MODE. To get the most functionality from PS you need to be in RGB mode.

FYI... PS has a knack of saving the last state of things in the program. This includes the last type of document you created (not 'opened'). So if you created a new doc that was in greyscale mode for instance, then the next document you create will have all of the same settings the previous one did.

This can also happen when you copy a photo to the clipboard.

Check this out and get back to us on it.
Hopefully that's all that's wrong. :B

Thanks for replying so soon. I checked it & it is in RGB Mode. The reall problem is with the Healing tool, Clone Stamp tool & the Dodge, Burn & Saturation.

I don't know what happened but just checking it again made all the tools start working!!! I am ETERNALLY grateful for you e-mailing me with this suggestion. You have no idea how frustrated I've been with this problem. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

Well... It worked for a little while & now I can't get it to work. I've checked RGB & nothing happens. Any more suggestions?

PS tools messed up.

Strange I just placed this somewhere else on the board???
Oh well here it is just in case:

How Do I Replace The Preferences File?
In Photoshop 7, replacing the Prefs is as easy as pressing down Command-Option-Shift (Mac) or Control-Alt-Shift (Windows) immediately after you start launching Photoshop 7. (Don't hold down the modifier keys before you launch, press them immediately afterward and hold them down until you see the dialog box.) You'll be asked if you want to delete the "Adobe Photoshop Settings File." Rather than replacing the Photoshop Prefs file, this replaces the entire Settings folder, include Color Settings, Actions, ToolPresets, and all of the other settings files.

Rather than losing all of your settings, you can manually replace just the Prefs file:

Quit Photoshop.
Locate the Adobe Photoshop Prefs file.
Delete the file.
Restart Photoshop.
Reset your Preferences.
Reload any custom palettes.

Good luck,
Lasa

i think i have the answer for you!

this isn't always the problem, but i think you may have your caps lock on. the tools you mention won't work until you unlock the caps. try it. good luck, boyd.

I had the same problem not to long ago... all I did was kept on experimenting with changing different settings.

I will try some things out and see what you could change :}

I Think It's Fixed!

I want to thank everyone for their input. I followed Lasa's advice & it's working great now!

Take Care
Skyy
