Photoshop Top 40 with Deke McClelland #18 - Smart Objects

In this video Deke shows you all about Smart Objects in Photoshop. Smart Objects are an excellent way to apply non-destructive filters and edits to your images (similar to adjustment layers) and also to hold various types of graphics such as Adobe Illustrator files and other vector formats and even camera RAW photos.

When you import camera RAW photos as smart objects you can re-open the import options and change the camera RAW settings as many times as you want! That's something you can only do with smart objects :)

Smart objects aren't all that smart. And they aren't objects. What they are is envelopes. The kind that hold things. And keep them safe. So that everything you do protects the image from harm. This is Photoshop at its best.
