Photoshop request

Hey guys!I was thinking of making an alternative to the hoodies they sell in my uni (lisbon's faculty of medicine). Image (1) is what they currently use. I was thinking of making a more worn out, kind'of torn, symbol, like the flag in image (2). But it must be kept simple, nothing too fancy, just black and yellow (not the song), since it's ment to go on shirts/hoodies. Any question about the design, be free to ask!And thank you in advance for the time spent on this!

It would seem that having a distressed look to an academic emblem is not very respectful and doesn't present the school in a favorite light.

I really don't know... But we use it all the time without asking for permission, in presentations, for instance. Basically everything that represents our faculty has this symbol, and I've never heard of anyone getting into some kind of trouble for using this in an incorrect manner.
Furthermore, this would be only for a select group of friends, not a widespread symbol. And I really don't think that it degrades the school's name, it's just an edgier look, an alternative to the two kinds of hoodies they sell right now.

in answer to your question it would be hard to do and still have it look good 1 the main text is on the outside all that would become unreadable, yes you could apply the effects but all you would have left is pretty much a worn out food supermarket logo here in the UK



And I am fairly sure that is not what your after...

Well, what if you do the worn out and ripped style just on the symbol, taking out the text? I'd add it later. And Hoogle, not something like that, but I'm imagining the school's emblem and the text to be arranged like that. Just a better symbol and a better font.

I have edited the first post for jantas at his thoughtful response to objections, changing the controversial image, and I have removed discussion regarding that image. I hope the replacement flag does not create more problems, as it is still representative of a nation. If someone is offended, please PM me and I will address the issue further.

I had a bit of an idea. After playing with the distressed look and not liking any results -- not saying it can't be done, but what would you rip through? The M? I'm not sure if you could really make it recognizable. Anyhoo, that's my thought. So here is an idea, not perfectly done, but just to see what you think.

When I look at this again, I think it is too busy. I tried a variation but it's also too busy. I think if the M were bolder/thicker/different font, it might work . . .Here is another - no caduceus - but I imagine more conservative than and not that different from your original. Oh well, I gave it a shot. :mrgreen:

Those are really nice, I've put them up for consideration with my mates. In the meanwhile, don't you think that if you ripped like this portion of the M (1), for instance, the symbol would stay recognizable? And for the kind of worn out style, i just thought of something like this hat (2), but I'm not sure if it goes well with the whole picture.
But hey, thanks a lot for the other images, I really apreciate it!

I like them, and I'll put them up for consideration with my mates. But still, if you tore the M somewhat like in picture (1), where I put the triangle (you can see why I'm asking you guys for photoshop help), I think it would still be readible. Don't you think so?

Ah, the example with the hat is a lot better representation of what could work. That would be easy to do sand the M would be recognizable. The other distortions you suggest make it too hard to see the M. I may have time later today, but I'm very busy for the first part of my day. I'll see what I can do.

Meantime, if anyone else wants to chime in, lol . . .

Still not knowing if this is what you want, here it is anyway. I think this is the last one I have time for as I am neglecting other things a bit. But, it was fun. To have this done properly, the desired font name is needed. I have warped the header and that makes it fuzzy. The design for a tee shirt or sweat is not as crucial. In fact, considering the distressed look, it should have some fuzzy/ragged edges.
