Hello,

I am looking to have a couple pics shopped as i dont have access to photoshop at the moment. I would like someone to please change the color of the wheels on my car. i want to see them in both flat black and a blue that is just slightly darker than the car. i have included two pictures! thank you in advance for any help you can offer!

put up your try and someone will talk you through what needs to happen

Photoshop Gurus is a photoshop discussion forum for people to teach, learn and share

although we used to do free requests, the forum has recently undergone some changes to their guidelines and we are instead advised to help people through what they need doing by advising them to download the Photoshop free trial or GIMP

so if you post up your attempt i will walk you through it. ;)

i didnt save it because it was so bad. my problem is that i can not select the wheel properly to even start to manipulate it.

don't select the wheel, that's what i do when i do things like this, i just grab a soft brush, get it to the colour i want (unless it's black then it's slightly lighter) brush around the area, set the blend mode to soft light or whatever looks best (multiply etc) then carefully erase the unwanted coloured areas.

that makes no sense to me at all, sorry i just dont understand what your saying. not sure how i am going to be able to erase the sections inside the wheel if i cant see that or how the reflections and such on the wheel are going to show through if i paint over them.

oh right, in that case the instructions are going to be a wee bit different, sorry :P

2 momentos while i boot it up :P

Right okay, booted up try this:

Open the Image you want in GIMP.
Immediately start a new layer (top bar>layer> new layer).
select the brush tool don't prance around with selections or anything
choose either one of the fuzzy circles
Paint over the wheel in black on the new layer (remember, no selecting)
in the layers window on the interface (if you don't see it go to "windows" at the top then "recently closed docks" and it will be "layers paths and fonts") there is a dropdown box that says "normal" and next to it on the left it says "mode:" change the drop down box to show "grain Merge"
your wheels will now regain the detail while the colour has changed.
now, with the eraser carefully remove any unwanted black bits from the tyres and such.

there you have it, a general jist of what the wheel will look like.

EDIT:
What's wrong with that? looks great! just gotta use black to get the idea of what you want it as now.

did that, doesnt look like the highlights are dark enough to me and i also can not erase out the inside of the wheels because i am having a very difficult time seeing where i need to erase and not going too far. that is my biggest issue and getting clean edges and such as using a fingerboard on the laptop really sucks.

ok, here is a picture of a different car and wheels paint with the exact color blue that I am considering. one of the issues i am having is creating the "flat" color effect that the paint will have.

i dont have any more time tonight, but if you or anyone else would like to give me a hand and do my wheels in those two pics the color and style of these I would greatly appreciate it! also if its not too much trouble the same effect with flat black as well!

the problem is is the wheel spoke types are completely different that one was probably flat to begin with or plastic.

surely you get the general idea of what you are going for though?

by flat i mean no gloss. the paint is actually plasti-dip, so it will give the same effect no matter the shape of the wheel i think. i get a decent idea, but would still really like to be able to look at a picture of both actual colors side by side.

*edit*
I really do appreciate all the time and help you are offering! I just have never been really artistic and don't have the strongest desire to be able to do all of this because i really have no need on a regular basis.

ah, right, there's a toold called the dodge/burn tool in GIMP i'm going to tell you this for the record, but if you use the "burn" tool on the whiter areas, it will near enough remove the glossy effect you speak of.

here's a quick one just for the road seeing as you've at least had a go:

it isn't perfect and it looks more grey than black (photoshop is a ponce at the best of times, look at the back wheel for example XD)

It isn't my best work, I'm much better at creating than manipulating.

That is great! From looking on my phone, the color looks very good. Would it be possible to do the same with the color blue from the wheels on the other cr. Those are the two colors I am trying to decide between!
