Photoshop not selecting properly

Hi,

I'm having a problem with my photoshop when it comes to selecting images, rasterizing shapes and saving as jpegs. When I make a simple shape for example, and try selecting it in the layers palette, the selection is completely different to the shape. I've included an example below to show what I mean.

I get this when saving as jpgs too, and it fills the squares that it adds with the yellow colour (in this example). Its very frustrating and any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

well, lets start of with JPEG, why not png?
JPEG can't support transparency, so it should select the entire panel, weird.
Try saving as png if there is no special reason for JPEG, and see if the bug is still there.
