Hey guys im new to these forums and fairly new to photoshop! I was wondering if you guys could help me out with something for a little project im working on. Im using a design from the hitman absolution title. So i was wondering how i was to create the little black marks on the smaller red lettering and on the line so that it looks like its splattered with black and/or fades out at the ends?

here is the picture (sorry i dont know how to put a picture in my post yet)

If you zoom in a little on the red lettering you can see it better, but any help on how I can create this effect would be appreciated!

Thanks!

2 Methods you can use depending on your skill set within Ps:

Method One:
1, Lay your type out with what you would like it to say.
2, Create another layer on top of your text layer.
3, Hold the Alt key while hovering over the new layer and there should be a small arrow pointing down, click on it. This should underline the layer of text.
4, Select a brush of your choice and paint in any effect you'd like.

The layers panel should look something like this:

The final result should be something like this:

Method 2:
1, Lay your type out with what you would like it to say.
2, Add a layer mask to your text layer
3, Using a black brush, go around the text and remove what you want until you have the look you want.

Where the layer mask button is:

Which ever way you choose, the end result will be the same. With using the layer mask, you can adjust the result as much as you like by painting either black (to remove parts of the text) or White (to add back to the text)

Hope this helps

Just to add, using a grey brush will fade the ends. Adding a level of transparency to the lettering without completely removing it.

To create the faded effect of the line.

Create a line using the Rectangular Marquee tool:

Add a Layer/Vector mask. Use the Gradient tool set to foreground to transparent (black to white)

Pull gradients from the end towards the center on both ends.

Should look like this:
