Hi Matelin...

Make sure that above all else, you "optimize" your image slices before saving them out.

And keep in mind that using a large image as an entire Website can easily be too graphic intense to be practical. This is somewhat subjective though in that your target audience will dictate a lot of the choices you make in designing a site.

Is it possible to see your site somewhere so i/we can checkout the file size?

also...

When you have the page opened in ImageReady, click on the "Preview in Default Browser" icon on your toolbar. That will generate the page and show how large the file size is.

That depends...

The more colors that you use, the larger your image will be.

For example, if you said "Only use 4 colors, your image would be small...and ugly ;-) If you said use 64,000 colors, your image would be huge and have a lot of detail.

When you Save for web, you have the ability to use as many colors as you like to balance size against quality.

If it is a graphic, you can save it as a .gif format. If it a photograph or an image that requires higher quality, save it as a .jpeg image.

When you click on the Optimized version of your file, it should have selected the minimum colors that are necessary for the quality you have selected. I usually set my quality at 60.

Hope I didn't confuse you [confused]

WOW! thank u all for your assistance! The feed back has really helped me. Especially the Keeper' I tried your instructions and BANG! my page sizes went wayyyyyyyyyy low! Thanks so much, now I can look forward to redoing my Web site and feel good about it so that it is not such a pest on my shoulder, instead i can finally enjoy doing it since I now have some knowledge! again thanks all.
