Yesterday, Photoshop CS4 started acting weird and I decided that instead of trying to fix it for hours on end I would just buy CS5 because it was time to upgrade anyway. The problems persist though, I'll just list the things that are wrong. First off, I have to click File->New (or Ctrl+N) 3 or 4 times to bring up the new document menu. When I hit create, the new document menu disappears like normal but no new document is created. I tried that a few times but failed to create a new file each time. After a few attempts, I was able to open a file by dragging it into photoshop. When drawing with the brush I noticed some odd behavior. Sometimes It would makes the stroke as I held down the mouse like normal, but when I released the stroke would disappear. Other times it would not appear at all, and once I was able to make a stroke. I have no conceivable idea what's wrong with photoshop. I hadn't been playing with the settings and I like the stickied topic suggested, I deleted the preferences and purged, restarted photoshop, nothing worked. I'm banging my head on my desk here :banghead: If anyone has any idea, I would greatly appreciate.

do you have any problems with other programs?, is it just photoshop?, also if everything fails the easier solution is to format your hard drive and start with a clean copy of windows ( assuming your not on a mac )

Yeah win7x64, and I've tried the x86 and x64 versions of Photoshop as well as running as admin. No luck.

Just to be clear, PS4 was giving you a problem, you upgraded to CS5, and you have the same problems in both versions?
You said you reset preference and went to Edit|Purge|All, both steps right?

Try updating the video card driver that can cause various problems.

Are all the other programs running OK
