hey,
at the moment i am running photoshop CS5 under wine on ubuntu and i copy an image from firefox, and the paste option in photoshop isn't highlighted, how do i fix this?
i can open the image in photoshop, and copy it over that way, but on CS2 it allowed me to copy straight from firefox :/

are you running photoshop cs5 full version or the light version. even using a program like wine will still make photoshop inconsistant the program is far to powerful to be run 100% successfully through an emulator. I tried to run cs5 extended through the same way as you have and after hours of retyping code etc to get it to work I was still not satisfied that it was stable enough to trust using for projects. you are lucky if you have got the genuine photoshop to work at all as about 80% of people fail. If it is just the image thing and clipboard your having a prolem with then save the image and drag into photoshop or do the file open route

Photoshop will not recognise screen captures whilst it is open I am sure I have selected something to do this as I awear it never use to be a problem. it appears you have to do you print screen as usual then open up photoshop>file new >select new document size from clipboard then edit>paste but I tend to find it a lot easier for windows 7 users to goto Start menu> search and type snipping tool this will let you click and drag a box wherever you want to screen cap save it as a jpeg and load it into photoshop if you need to edit it etc
