Photoshop could not complete your request because of a program error

I know this has been asked before but the replies / responses / solutions do not work so hoping there is some new thinking or new solutions.
I have just upgraded to the new Photoshop 2024 and suddenly, I am getting the dreaded "Photoshop could not complete your request because of a program error" which doesn't allow me to open any PSD's / jpegs etc or even close photoshop down.
The common solutions are to roll back to an older version (that is a short-term solution possibly but I am paying for the latest version)...... or to deactivate GPU processing (which kinda defeats the whole purpose and also then doesn't allow using "scrubby zoom" which I use a lot).
Even if I DO deactivate photoshop, I then still cannot shut photoshop down the normal way and have to use the task manager to end the task. But then when I re-open Photoshop, I then need to go and deactivate the GPU again because shutting Photoshop down via the task manager doesn't save the current settings.

I am really hoping someone has some advice or longterm solution to this issue

TIA

Hi @Photographix
Photoshop 2024 is hot off the press and the ink has not yet dried. Aka it has quite a few bugs.
Other than workarounds rolling back is your best bet and waiting for updates with bug fixes. If you have a Windows system you could check and see if your graphics card firmware needs updating. On Mac systems those only come with OS updates.

There is a reason that early software adopters wanting to be on the leading edge are sometimes being referred to as being on the bleeding edge.

Maybe other forum members have done better suggestions.

Thanks so much for your reply John...... truly appreciated..... maybe it is time I turned off the "automatic update".....
I will persevere because other than having to redo all my custom keyboard shortcuts and actions, I am just hoping that the bug will be sorted at some time
