Photoshop Color Issues

Hello!

I've been looking for a community to share this issue with for some insightful suggestions. Any help whatsoever is welcome!

First off, I am using Windows 7 Profession 64-bit. The program I am using is Photoshop CS5 Extended Edition. The issue I am having is happening in both x32 and x64 versions of the program. There hasn't been any changes to the system besides unrelated updates. Drivers are all updated. I've re-installed my operating system twice to fix this. It works fine for awhile and negates back to this problem that nobody knows how to fix.

The color picker shows something rather disturbing. As you can see, there is a very hard fall-off between the shades and are more apparent as you change the hue.

The color picker is suppose to have a nice gradient like this one:

(Eliminate the spaces)

However, mine looks like this:

(Eliminate the spaces)

There is also some noticeable changes in the picture itself, not limited to what is on the color picker. I've tried changing to Adobe RGB & sRGB, nothing seems to work. To no avail, I cannot fix this issue alone.

Any help with this issue whatsoever will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time,
Remn

Hi Remn !
To put a silly question to begin with - are you sure you have your monitor set to display True Color 32-bit and not 16-bit or something..?
My monitor drops the settings I've done every now and then so I have to put it back on track and I'm also running Win 7 Pro 64-bit.

I take it that the Open GL integration works - Flick Panning, Animted Zoom etc - and that PhS has detected your Video Card ( Edit -> Settings -> Perfomance -> GPU Settings ).

Is this issue only occuring i Photoshop or is it the same in other applications ?

If only in PhS I would contact Adobe for support. Otherwise I would suspect a hardware problem with your Video Card since it's ok right after re-installing Win 7 but then negates back after a while.

Hi Remn, I think JgaphNet is on the right path here.
You said you're video drivers are up to date, and that's good, but I'm seeing a lot of video issues with CS5.
Double check your monitor settings of course, but I'd like you to uncheck Enable Open GL Drawing and see if that helps.

I would like to thank you and Steve for the speedy assistance.
- Both monitors are set up and calibrated properly, they've never dropped the settings.
- This issue is only in Photoshop CS5.
- GPU Settings have detected my Video Card: GeForce GTX 260/PCI/SSE2
- I've tried both, Disabling and Re-Enabling OpenGL Drawing.

I wiped out my preferences and the problem still persists.
I found out a little more about this issue. As I mentioned earlier, it wasn't limited to the Color Picker but also caused some odd effects on the image itself.

Untitled.jpg

Right Image: Original. This is what it looks like on the Web and on my other computers that are also running the same version of Photoshop.

Left Image: Result loading the image on the Right.

Middle: Result after taking a screenshot of the left image and pasting it in Photoshop.

I used paint to capture all of this. The odd thing is that once I saved the left image as a .JPG ... It looked like the image on the right. This is looking more like a driver conflict to me.. I am going to do a rollback on different drivers to confirm my suspicion.

### Solution: The newest driver for GeForce GTX 260 causes internal graphical issues with Photoshop CS5. To fix this issue go to device manager. Under Display Adapters double click on the GeForce GTX 260 and go to Driver. Click on Rollback driver or Uninstall it. Look for this driver version 8.15.11.8593, anything newer has issues.

I hope this helps anyone out there with the same frustrating issue.

Glad you solved the problem and thank you for posting the solution.
Suspected it was a driver issue since everything else seemed ok, but you beat me to it.
Had a somewhat similar issue with Vista and it turned out it was running two (!) instances of the same driver - go figure...
Uninstalled one of them at it ran like clockwork.
