Photoshop CC alternative for Killwhite

Hello Everyone!

I just updated from Adobe CS5 to Adobe CC and one of the main scripts i used was called Killwhite.
I used this almost every day, but it needed pixel bender to be used which has been discontinued.

Does anyone know of an alternative? Or is there a new function in PS CC that turns white pixels transparent?
Select colour range does not work as I want the transparencies created with gradients.

Thanks so much!!!

-Derek

Try this:

Select with Color Range, or press Ctrl+Alt+2, hit Delete key, deselect, then Layer->Matting->Remove White Matte.

And keep in mind that there is no true solution to this. No one can tell if 50% Gray is

a) the result of 50% opaque Black on the White background

or

b) the result of 100% opaque Gray on the White background

Thanks for the Reply!

Although it is not the result I am looking for. I need something that makes the 50% grey a transparent.
When use your method, I still get opaque sections. I'm really looking to get the effect of the attached image from the Killwhite site.

Thanks for your help!

Have you tried the "blend if" under the layer style blending options ?

Open a layer style, under blend if, hold your alt/option key which splits the slider, and move the slider to where you like it.

I did a couple tests and this is VERY close. Thank you so much! Should have know about this as it is was always in CS5.
It struggles a bit with the lighter colours (like in the leaf it knocked out much of the light green, where as with Killwhite it remains relatively opaque.) Not sure on how that script was choosing what to remove as SCTRWD mentioned.

I'll just have to play around for the best results.

Thanks again!!

Well, with my method I get the very same results like the ones they get on the Killwhite site. In fact, the first thing I did was trying my method on their images... And I saw no difference at all.

May be there are some subtle things I just don't see?:)

Hey SCTRWD.

Your probably right, I might of screwed up your steps. Yours looked very close until i put a colour overlay on it and you lost all the details as the gradients were opaque. Your method was on the left and IamSam is on the right. Thoughts on where i might of went wrong?

Thanks!

Hey IamSam,

You system worked almost perfect! I noticed it seemed to remove a bit more of the light colours than Killwhite (Like the light green in the leaf). Not sure how their script was choosing what pixels to make transparent as SCTRWD mentioned before. I think the more i play around with it, the closer i'll get.

Thanks for your help!!!

If your trying to add a background, just add a new layer below the image (apple) layer and add the color.
