Hi all,

Is there anyone with the Illustrator skills necessary to draw the photorealistic picture attached? I am trying to learn how to draw it but I am learning very slow using lynda.com
I appreciate any help and I am willing to give $300
Thank you
David.

Caryon, do you realize that if you have a higher resolution image, you wouldn't have to commission someone to re-do the art by hand, and can, instead, use the automated "Image Trace" tool in Illustrator. In a couple of minutes you would have a very nice piece of fully-scalable vector art?

Unfortunately, the image posted does not have adequate resolution, otherwise, I would have just done it for you gratis. That being said, below are some screen grabs from the process of automated conversion. Notice that even at this limited resolution, it doesn't do too bad of a job.

First, a screen grab from AI showing the "Image Trace" palette plus a small section of the image you posted. Notice the unresolved small details.

Next, zoomed in a bit more, showing the paths and fills generated by Image Trace.

If you don't have a significantly higher resolution version of the image, you have a couple of options. One is that you can take moderately high rez photos or scans of separate sections and they can be stitched together to make a composite that will have very high resolution.

Depending on just how large you need the final product, a second, more costly option is that one can attempt to work with the current version using a combination of Image Trace on the artwork, but manually formatting and typing in all the text. For some of the larger items seen (eg one of the insects), this will look reasonable (see attached), but for smaller features, a lot of manual tweaking / re-drawing would likely need to be done.

Attached is a crop of one of the insects done by converting the insect to vector art in AI, and then rendering that as a 900px wide JPG (ie, about 9x larger in area than the original crop) and then a bit of tweaking in PS. It's definitely a compromise, but it isn't bad. It all depends on how good you need this to look and what quality original you can supply.

HTH,

Tom, you need to watermark your work before it can be approved in the freelance section. I know this is nitpicking, considering you're just providing a sample, but them's the rewls!

Since that little bug was only about 5% of the total image and just about useless by itself, I skipped putting a watermark over it.

... No problem, tho, when I get home, I'll watermark it and re-upload it.

Mods: Here's the watermarked version of the tiny crop from my previous post. You can delete the old post if you think that's best. - T
