Well, that is the difference Tom between our artistic sensibilities. I agree about the background, but I wouldn't go all Disney. The father wants something a bit more sci fi and I can go with that.
I also wouldn't move them apart as that would change the meaning and the mood for me. I also wouldn't care about the heads. That's a cropping choice. As for my treatment of their faces, it is a pure fantasy effect which includes laying a rainbow texture over the face and softening it by painting highlights, shadows, and multiple colors on top of that. I went for a glow around and on both their faces. If I were to revise it, I do think I would take your advice to alter the background. But in keeping with my interpretation, I would blur the same BG image, play around with overlays, like texture, blend modes, and maybe do the same as I did on the faces, painting in more random color.
I personally -- obviously -- like the mystery of the lights on and around the faces. It says respect, love, and affection, and a spiritual connection between sisters. BFF of course, LOL. I'm sure there are a few more applicable acronyms!
The sci fi sort of BG creates a sophistication which to my way of seeing it suggests the world around them. It is a technical marvel that is always leading us to greater mysteries created by man which may be a Brave New World or an Apocalypse. Your guess is as good as mine. Their future together and its influences will determine indeed if they are always in love or torn apart by the stresses on growing up, complicated by the of our technology and having to absorb that. (much more complicated than the 50s in which I grew up) Add to that the regular pressure of development, and the uncertainties of our current world, financial set backs, and political strife and yo get science fiction in which you have to live.
OK, off the soapbox Aunty Clare. I can't help myself. I always see a myriad of stories within a good image and the manipulation of that image. So there. I've spoken my truth. Thank you for expressing yours.
PS: but I might be wrong. Nobody even gave me one like so . . .
