Photo Manip

something in between would be just fine to me.
personally, i wold soften the whole image but the love couple, apples and the luna, so they will pop out in the first plan more.
you may darken the background and leave light main event, it will ad some photography realism.

Second one for me, but the first does have it's merits.
Care to share how you got to the end result please?

I did a quick and dirty touch-up to illustrate a lighting issue. The composition is nice and the lighting generally fits. That being said when you do a compositions like this you have to be aware of how light affects every object in it. You also have to be aware of color scheme (cool&warm) and how lighting affects that as well.
I added some lighting how I felt it would realistically fall to make the image more dramatic. Because this is also a night scene, the areas not affected directly by the warm moonlight, I tinted blue(cyan)
I also adjust the shadows and highlight so everything isn't so dark you can't make it out.
Hope this helps a bit. :)

Thank you all so much. I recently read about showing and how I need to show the stock images, sorry, I will make sure i do next time. I will post the stock images later when I have a bit more spare time, just popped on. I love what you have done with it Fatboy 73, the shadows look much better, something I will certainly remember next time.

Thanks again all, so glad I found this forum, I have learn't so much from you all already.

Will post stock images in the morning

thanks again

Steve

I would like the lightning to be in between i.e. not lighter but not dim. Since the background is night.

I agree with the above, though I would selectively darken the background relative to the "action." The lighter version seems out of keeping with the night idea and the moon doesn't have the same importance if the scene looks like daytime.

However, I think there is a flatness overall that bothers me. The couple could have a bit more contrast so they stand out a bit more.

I like what fatboy did but I think the desaturation is too much. The apples could have color highlights where the moonlight strikes. I also think a bit of halo on the couple, especially his white shirt would make it seem that the moon is not the only bright object in the picture.

The way I would do that is to select the couple, make a layer above, then take the softest round brush at low opacity, sample the moon for color, and brush the edges of the selection, putting the glow where it makes sense at the depth you want. Then, if it's too bright, experiment with overlay, softlight, change of opacity, normal blend mode with lowered opacity, and so on.

You can do the same thing to the apples or the basket, but I wouldn't overdo it. It's not a reality photo. There are at least 3 techniques I can think of for desaturating an image, like the apples, then adding back a touch of the color which could indicate the moonglow instead of adding a whitish highlight.

And Inkz has sharp eyes, don't you think? LOL. Good catch Inkz.

Very nice work, detailed and careful. Thanks for posting the stock photos. It's always a marvel to see where you started and where you went. Really good selections.

I agree with the Queen Bee here on the fact it does look slightly flat. Maybe a vignette might help it out and maybe a slight blur on the background to create a sense of distance for realism.

It's not a reality photo.

True, but you can only bend the rules of reality so much before your brain tells you something is off. Here's my take on it.

I desaturated the apples that much because:
1. Too much bright saturated red thrown around makes for a confusing, bad, composition.
2. The apples are not the focus of the piece, but the bright saturated red made them the focus.

Aesthetically the moon should be dimmed as well, because it's the first object that draws your attention and it should be the couple.
I did add a slight depth of focus blur to the background, but perhaps it should have been more.
A lot more could have been done, but I was just trying to point out some easy changes that would help the picture over all. :)

I agree with you fatboy. I didn't think to alter the moon, lol, but that would certainly help.

Here's what I did just to illustrate the apples and the glow on his shirt:

apples could probably be darker still. Like you said, they should not be the focus.

Thanks, I will try your tips, I can kinda see how what you have said would make the image stand out more. I will be sure to repost once I edit it again, thanks again

My name is Renato, I work with producing videos for Department of Education in Praia Grande - Brazil. Currently we are producing some videos of storytelling for children and need to put some images in the background. Searching on google I found your site and I enjoyed the landscape picture you posted (autumn_night_premade_by_sunshyn3-d38alc0). Could I use your picture to illustrate the video? We will not make money with it, is just a video that we provide for the children’s. I recorded the video with a green background and now need to find some nice pictures to put in the background. If you want to help us please contact me.

For the people who find it hard to see light grey text on a white background. :)
