Hi all - new to this forum but not new to PS. Seems to be a lot of good stuff here and I look forward to visiting other forums.

I have been trying to expand my hand at photo repair but I am a bit stumped as to how to fix this problem.

The color photo had been damage by taking it out of the frame. The photo was ripped and had the portion in gray removed. I manage to find a very small B/W version of the photo in a church directory. I scanned that and lined them up and ended up with the grayed portion as a replacement. What I am not sure where to go from here is the color.

Any suggestions.

I wouldn't be so worried about the colour, but rather the fact that the new replacement section is extremely blurry, while the original is not. That's going to be near to impossible to fix.

You could probably get very close with the colour replacement. But resharpening that much blur will stop you in your tracks.

I'm gonna think on this one a bit and see if anything comes to mind.

Anyone else have any ideas?
 
I totally agree with Mark. The colouring part isn't the big problem...
I made this colouring in about 2 minutes.

There is some nasty edges around the coloured area that should be fixed etc. But the big problem is the bluriness.

I'd say that your hope is that Mark or some of the other pro's here at PSG finds some nifty solution \:]

You may be able to get a decent result by using filter/noise/median set to a low pixel number then following up with filter/sharpen/unsharp mask to correct the majority of the blurriness. You other option may be to airbrush the missing parts in using the black and white pic as a guide for shading.
 
Thanks guys for the tips. Moltas - not bad for a 2 min fix. I will try to keep working on this and maybe get something that doesn't look too bad.

Yea I noticed that it was pretty blurry. The B/W church phone directory pic was pretty small so there was no way to get the sharp edges like the original photo had. :(
