I am on a PC using a mouse and keyboard and my pen pressure option has an exclamation point next to it. How do I fix this?

Sorry if this is obvious, but everything I searched for ends up related to Wacom or something related to a tablet with a pen

are you actually using a pen? your opening statement doesn't make it clear.

if you are, what make, and what drivers?

No pen. Just a mouse and keyboard with a conventional LCD monito. I used to be able to do this, but had I recently reset my photoshop defaults.

if you're not using a pen, what does it matter?

btw. where are you seeing this? what version of windows / photoshop are you using?

I am trying to make tapered pen strokes, and unless I am mistaken, the key to doing this was to set the Brush Control to Pen Pressure. I used to do this all the time with mouse and keyboard, but after I reset defaults on Photoshop recently, it no longer works.

I am using Photoshop CC with Windows 10 and the triangle with the exclamation point in it is right next to the Control drop-down menu in the Brush window

The only way I know in PS is to define a brush with "pen pressure", the draw a path. And the make a right click with your mouse on the path and select "stroke path" or "stroke subpath". Select "Brush" in the dropdown menu and activate "Simulate Pressure".

That would be too cumbersome for me - you could save yourself this effort with Illustrator.
