path question

Ok, so I have a path I’m working on. Right now it’s just a large closed figure. I need to cut a hole in it, so that when I convert it into a shape, there will be a transparent hole in the middle. How do I go about doing this?

Also, I need to cut three holes of the same shape. How do I “copy and paste” the holes so that they are identical?

I apologize if I’m not clear. Please ask me questions if you need me to clarify anything. I’m using CS4.

Thanks in advance.

here is the trick....
create a new shape with that hole.
Select it with the Path selection tool (A)
Do a Ctrl+C or a Ctrl+X (because you wont be needing it any more)
Go to you shape layer and select the entire shape (Path selection tool)
Do a Ctrl+V
Select "subtract from shape" in the options bar at the top of the screen.
Do it again for many times as you like, remember to select the "main" shape before pasting.

Clumsy way of doing it. The proper way is to use the substract option while drawing the actual path.
