Hi,

How do I partially brighten a picture. I use the magic tool to select the area that I want to brighten, however, it left a white outline. Please see the picture attached.

Good because making a selection wouldnt be the way I would go because of the exact reasons demonstrated instead I would have opened up the image in camera raw and used the graduated filter effect to brighten up the top half of the image.

save you image as a different namejpg , reopen and lighten it up to whatever part of the image you want lightened forget what the rest of the image looks like , then copy the image ontop of the original and use a layer mask to paint in black or white to reveal the rest of the other image , use a soft brushc

or use the target adjustment brush in raw

egosbar, could you not, in the same document, just duplicate the the original layer (Cmd/Cntrl + J), add a clipped adjustment layer, then a layer mask?

Is there a reason to save as a "different name jpg" and then copy it "ontop" of the original?
